Taekwondo for Teenagers
Teenagerhood is a time of transformation. Adolescents are growing and maturing both physically and mentally to prepare for adulthood. The structure and shape of their bodies are changing; suddenly they have an abundance of physical strength, but they can also have extreme emotional ups and downs. It is essential to go back to the basics and remind a teenager of the qualities that make up the Taekwondo spirit: perseverance, respect, friendship, consideration, passion, confidence, leadership, and self-discipline.
Ahn’s Taekwondo’s curriculum for teenagers is informed and backed by over 40 years of teaching experience. Grandmaster Ahn has worked with teenagers of all levels, from beginners to members of the Korean National Team! The Teens curriculum is designed to get students to think about and practice everything in deeper detail, all the way from the simple (such as standing and shifting the weight to move) to the complex (performing demonstration-quality kicks and poomsae). Students will learn the principles of how to use their natural body mechanics to maximize power. As their knowledge deepens, they will be able to practice more advanced Taekwondo skills to improve their confidence and concentration and may be invited to participate in the Ahn’s Taekwondo instructor training and leadership program.
With teenage life becoming more stressful than ever with the pressures of high school, tests, other extracurriculars, maintaining a social life, and college admissions and decisions, Taekwondo is an excellent way to develop an adolescent’s character and all-important indomitable spirit!
